Speed as well as accuracy is important in this section. Work quickly, or you might not finish the paper. There are no penalties for incorrect responses, only marks for correct answers, so you should attempt all questions. Each question is worth one mark.
You must complete the answers within the time limit. Calculators are NOT permitted.
Good Luck!
Explanation
The correct answer is B.
This is a graph demonstrating daily per capita caloric supply. The important thing for candidates to look at is the word ‘supply’, ignoring this would lead candidates to most likely choose an answer looking at calorie consumption. The graph is looking at the amount of calories available per capita per day across the world.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
Northern America, largest areas of dark blue.
Explanation
The correct answer is D.
The greatest amount of light coloured areas are in Africa.
Explanation
The correct answer is A.
Statement C is false. Statement D is unsupported and also false. There is no way to know that caloric supply is on average 10% lower as each colour is for a range of calorie intake.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
Of the reasons above C is the most valid. B and D are very unlikely and not a logical reason for the data to not be available. C is more likely to be the reason than A.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
Per capita is latin for ‘by head’ meaning the data is shown per person. Answers A and D can be ruled out as they would give inaccurate and limited data and therefore are not a measurement source a study would use. There is no evidence that this is an adult only study and per capita refers to all people, not adults.
Explanation
The correct answer is B.
The clue is in the name ‘Gross Domestic Product’ so even if candidates are unaware of GDP they should be able to reason an answer to this question.

Wed, 07 Feb 2024 02:44:10
GDP IS NOT PER CAPITA, WHY DO ALL THE ANSWERS HAVE PER CAPITA
Explanation
The correct answer is B.
GDP is not highest in the UK thus ruling out A and C (note other incorrect answers are present in C aswell). Statement D contains western Europe and Central America as answers which are incorrect.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
A large number of African countries are shown in dark pink which indicates a GDP of less than 1k.
Explanation
The correct answer is D.
Looking at the graph it can be seen that there is more pink than green which supports statement D. A, B and C are unsubstantiated.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
There is no evidence that a country with a higher GDP spends more on transport.
Explanation
The correct answer is B.
The data does not show sucrose to have an impact on renal function of plasma. There is no mention of metabolism rates therefore B is correct.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
Study populations for each group tested is listed as being 6 therefore answer C is correct. There is no data in the graph to support any of the other answers.

Mon, 22 Aug 2022 20:06:33
Could it be argued that it is unclear whether the n=6 for the normal renal function and impaired renal function groups are actually the same participants?

Fri, 10 Mar 2023 18:24:51
I disagree that the correct answer is C as it cannot be deduced from the figure that those are all different participants. It is possible that n=12 as the participants may have taken both doses of sucrose.

Thu, 07 Nov 2024 18:35:15
I agree with Jan, there is nothing in the graph to indicate whether this is two cohorts, each subject to two trials, or four cohorts.
Explanation
The correct answer is D.
Candidates need to be sure to read the graph carefully.

Sun, 05 Sep 2021 14:46:17
Correct answer has a misspelling - "SCL" - which made me think it was a red-herring!

Wed, 22 Jun 2022 04:57:16
I second Clancy, the misspelling threw me off also!

Tue, 02 Jul 2024 09:49:32
Miss-spelled stuff brought me down by 1
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
Plasma sucrose concentration is highest at 2 hours. Candidates need to be sure to measure correctly and read the correct line on the graph.
Explanation
The correct answer is B.
B is supported by the data in the graph, those with renal impairment had higher plasma sucrose concentrations and is the most valid conclusion to be drawn.

Sun, 17 Jul 2022 17:19:29
'Result in' does not seem appropriate. Probably 'associate with'

Thu, 18 Aug 2022 07:26:04
There's just a correlation, which is not necessarily a causation

Mon, 27 Feb 2023 02:37:14
The final data points of two data points of the blue lines (both the normal function and moderate RI) show a final data point which are almost at the same concentration. Therefore B cannot be concluded as normal renal function was not measured to 24 h to see if would go below the moderate RI at 6g.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
The graph shows how the body switches from more aerobic based respiration to more anaerobic based respiration as exercise intensity increases. Thus answer C is correct.
Explanation
The correct answer is D.
Exercise intensity is what dictates the switch from mainly aerobic to mainly anaerobic respiration thus making B and C incorrect answers. Candidates need to read the graph carefully to see that D is correct.

Sat, 20 Aug 2022 15:38:15
At 35 the balance between aerobic and anaerobic are equal, so surely it should be 40, where anaerobic is greater?!

Fri, 02 Sep 2022 20:54:17
Jessica, it is when the point starts not when it is already greater.
Explanation
The correct answer is A.
The other statements are unsupported by the graph data.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
Lactate is being produced in anaerobic respiration. The end product of all respiration can be thought of as energy, lactate is not the goal therefore it is a by product.
Explanation
The correct answer is B.
If there was a point of zero exercise this would indicate no function by the body, those whom would have a zero exercise would not be able to perform exercise.
Explanation
The correct answer is D.
The cartoon is emphasising that the public’s demand for the restrictions to be lifted and things to return to a state of normalcy will likely result in a rise of cases again and more hospitalisations.

Thu, 16 Mar 2023 23:58:30
There is nothing in the cartoon to indicate it is about a resurgence in cases. Shouldn't C be a more accurate answer based on just the evidence provided.

Wed, 28 Jun 2023 14:56:26
I do agree with you, but looking closer - i think this is depicted by the healthcare workers sign saying ' see you soon ' implying that all of the publics demands will eventually lead to a resurgence in cases and the healthcare staff will in fact see them soon

Wed, 23 Aug 2023 20:08:00
I have to agree with Jen. Certainly I can see why many would answer C.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
The author communicates a negative view of the general public. This is emphasised by the cartoon featuring what some may regard as juvenile comments by the public.
Explanation
The correct answer is B.
Considering the negative light in which the author paints the general public the tone of this cartoon can be viewed as mocking of the general public.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
The healthcare worker is alone and appears to be isolated, the large number of people on the side of the general public isolates the healthcare worker and suggests the healthcare are being outnumbered and isolated from the general public.
Explanation
The correct answer is C.
The author is unsure about whether she should wear her veil which is a symbol of her religion.

Wed, 30 Aug 2023 03:13:56
I think the answer should be D because she is unsure about the veil due to a disparity between her and her family's viewpoint on religion. Isn't D the more accurate answer?

Tue, 05 Dec 2023 10:15:37
I agree with Eve, I also think that the veil is often a term used to address religion as a whole, it's not about the item of clothing.

Wed, 04 Dec 2024 02:31:34
The cartoon's black ink shows the girl's hair on the left side and the veil on the right side. The lack of details showing it is a fabric is probably what threw most people off.
Explanation
The correct answer is A.
Avant-garde is a term used to describe something that is unconventional or unusual.

Mon, 06 Jun 2022 22:48:48
The wrong answer was given in the gamsat tutorial
Explanation
The correct answer is B.
Based on the way the author divides the cartoon drawing and describes the conflict between her sense of religion and her family being modern it is likely that the author feels there is a conflict between modern and religion in her culture.

Mon, 29 Aug 2022 14:09:30
Since they have always been religious and modern, would it not make more sense that this statement only refers to the veil being less modern? - as she previously could do both.
Explanation
The correct answer is A.
Considering the authors focus on religion and modern beliefs in the cartoon strip above it is most likely that these would be a focus throughout the rest of the book.

Just to say, none of these questions in this test seem like they would be asked by Acer. The cartoon ones are ok, but most of these aren't relevent.
