Dipo

Hi there! My name is Dipo, and I’ll be starting my second year studying Dentistry at the University of Liverpool this September.
Moving to the UK from Nigeria during Year 11 and deciding to pursue Dentistry came with its fair share of challenges. I had to quickly adapt to a new education system, secure strong GCSE grades in subjects not covered in my previous curriculum, and find relevant work experience. Despite these hurdles, I achieved the grades I needed and went on to earn 3 A*s at A-Level.
However, after being rejected by all my university choices on A-Level results day, I knew I had to change my approach. I spent my gap year working as an A-Level Mentor at my sixth form, where I was responsible for teaching Chemistry and Biology to over 60 students. I later took on a role as an online tutor, working with students from diverse backgrounds. These experiences taught me how to tailor my teaching style to suit individual learning needs.
I was then able to successfully get a place at Liverpool to study Dentistry. During second application process I attended online and in person MMIs and panel interviews. I know firsthand how disheartening the application process can be but now that I’m fortunate enough to be in this position I plan to be the person I so desperately needed when I first applied.
