Hello!
I am Feras, a 19-year old medical student from Lebanon. I currently study medicine at the University of Turin in Italy and I recently finished the first year of my long educational journey. I live in Turin with changing housemates, away from home. I am passionate about sciences, sports, and computers.
I have been a fan of sciences and inventions my whole life. During childhood, I spent a lot of time with engineering and working-with-hands activities such as assembling lego structures and helping my father build our house in our hometown. Growing up, I found myself being a rare fan of mathematics in middle and high school, alongside physics, chemistry, and biology. I loved them all to a point where I couldn’t even decide to which field I would base my higher studies.
Moving on, I only recently became a fan of sports, as I was terrible at everything requiring prolonged physical effort during my childhood. I have been playing table tennis semi-professionally since 2016 as well as running regularly for the past 2-3 years with a team in Beirut. I also adore hiking and all activities in nature in general. This is where I discover the macro-details of the world following the micro-details discovered with studied sciences. There is a serenity in forests and green places that cannot be explained by science.
Finally, computers and coding have been things of high interest to me forever. I did several coding projects during high school with HTML, C, C++, and Arduino. I also love pc-parts and watching pc build videos. Someday I’ll be building my own system, although I’m not a gamer ๐
I am a firm believer in the theory of learning that says that the best way to learn is to teach.
Overall, my general plan for any subject is to first provide a general view of the collection of all details that make up the main scheme. After that, we visit each detail and do exercises to enforce the understanding and ability to apply what we learned. The student is occasionally asked to reexplain what they learned to me as if I am a young kid that barely knows anything on the subjects. Finally, we do several visits to the general scheme during our studies to reiterate the importance of details within that general picture.
I used to do some tutoring with my classmates during the last 4 years of school in all subjects since I used to ace them all. We used to hold study groups to explain concepts to each other. I had experience teaching young kids fun chemistry experiments during a summer camp in 2019.
My proudest achievement has to be my character growth during high school. I was an extremely shy person, with no social life or skills and with no interest or abilities in sports. Now, I have become a person I am proud of, being able to start a new life in a totally different country by living on my own and managing my life by myself, with my parents’ support of course.
