Iโm Lara, a Masterโs-qualified midwife and current GEM student. I scored in the top 10% in VR and DM in the UCAT and have served as a trained MMI assessor, giving me direct insight into how MMIs work. I come from a non-traditional background and understand how powerful a โdifferentโ profile can be when it is presented with confidence. I support students across the medical school application process, UCAT, MMI interviews, personal statements, and application strategy. With experience teaching university-level students and professional education, my approach is structured and supportive. I’ll help you think clearly, communicate confidently, and perform under pressure. The UCAT is a skills-based and interviews are about structured reflection. Once you understand the logic behind both, the process becomes far easier.
My teaching style is interactive and student-focused, built around the idea that learning should be both engaging and empowering. I adapt each session, ensuring that the material is not only understood but applicable. I focus on delivering clear, structured information in a way that makes sense and sticks, while always leaving space for questions, discussion, and critical thinking. Above all, I want students to leave each lesson with more confidence in their abilities than they had before – whether thatโs in their knowledge, their skills, or simply their belief that they can do it and succeed.
Teaching has been a meaningful part of my journey in both healthcare and education.
During my midwifery studies, I was involved in peer tutoring through the student council. I also led sexual health education sessions in secondary schools.
After qualifying as a midwife, I taught at the nursing school in Mayotte (French overseas territory) over two years, adapting to a multicultural environment and varied learning styles.
For the past two years, Iโve also worked professionally as an English teacher, helping students build language skills and confidence.
Across all these roles, Iโve developed a teaching style that is clear, supportive, and student-focused. I truly enjoy helping others learn, grow, and reach their potential.
One of my proudest achievements is spending 18 months in Mayotte from 2023-2025, a remote French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean, working as a midwife. I spent a year in an isolated island clinic, then six months with the emergency medical services, helping patients in remote areas via 4×4 or helicopter.
But also – getting into GEM while working in such a complicated area! I passed my UCAT with broken computers and wifi that kept cutting out – but I did it!
