Hi! I’m Abbas
I’m a dental student at the University of Leeds, and I’ve always been someone who believes that hard work and consistency are the keys to success. Whether it’s studying, training, or tutoring, I’ve found that giving something your all always pays off — even if it takes time. That mindset has shaped how I approach both my own education and the way I help others learn.
I’ve always been fascinated by the sciences, especially anything to do with how the human body works, which is what first drew me to Dentistry. It combines science, skill, and communication — and I loved the idea of a career that allowed me to directly help people while constantly learning. Getting into dental school on my first attempt was something I worked incredibly hard for, and it made me realise how much dedication and structure can achieve when it’s applied consistently.
That same dedication has always carried over into my tutoring. I started tutoring when I was in Year 12, mainly helping GCSE students with Maths and English. At the start, it was something small — just helping out a few people in lower years. But over time, I realised I really enjoyed explaining things, especially when I could find a way that finally made a difficult topic “click” for someone. That moment when a student understands something they’ve been struggling with is incredibly rewarding, and it’s what made me want to keep doing it.
Since then, I’ve gained a lot of experience working with different students across various subjects. I currently tutor A-level Chemistry, Biology, and Maths, as well as GCSE Science and Maths. I’ve been lucky enough to work with students who all have different strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles — and that’s something I’ve learned to really appreciate. No two students are ever the same, and part of being an effective tutor is being able to adapt to that.
Tutoring has also taught me how important communication is. It’s not just about knowing the subject — it’s about being able to explain it clearly and in a way that makes sense to whoever you’re teaching. I always try to make my sessions interactive and approachable. I never want a student to feel nervous about asking a question or admitting they don’t understand something. I think learning works best when students feel comfortable and supported, and I make that a big part of my approach.
Outside of academics, I’ve always been quite driven in whatever I take on. I’ve been going to the gym for years, and that’s helped me develop discipline and consistency — qualities that also show up in how I study and tutor. I’m also a beatboxer and have been doing it for around eight years now. It’s something I practice regularly and have even competed in. It might sound unrelated to tutoring, but it’s actually taught me a lot about patience, persistence, and self-improvement. Those same qualities carry over when I’m helping students push through challenging topics or preparing for exams.
One of the things I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing how much progress someone can make with the right guidance and mindset. Sometimes students start off thinking a subject “just isn’t for them,” but with a bit of structure, explanation, and encouragement, they realise they’re capable of a lot more than they thought. Watching that growth — both in understanding and confidence — is what makes tutoring so fulfilling for me.
As a dental student, I know first-hand how tough academic pressure can be. A-levels, in particular, can feel overwhelming at times because of how much content there is and how high the standards are. That’s why I really empathise with the students I work with. I understand the stress and self-doubt that can come with exams, and I always try to be the kind of tutor who not only teaches the material but also motivates and reassures. I want students to leave each session feeling more confident and in control than when they started.
I also believe that tutoring is about more than just improving grades — it’s about building lasting skills. When I tutor, I want my students to walk away not just knowing the answers for an upcoming test, but also feeling like they understand how to learn effectively on their own. Building that independence and confidence is something I value a lot.
Ultimately, I see tutoring as a partnership between me and my students. My goal is always to help them reach their potential, whether that means improving their understanding, boosting their grades, or simply finding a way to enjoy learning more. I put a lot of effort into making sure my sessions are structured, engaging, and suited to each individual, and I always give my full attention and energy to every lesson.
I genuinely love what I do, and I’m proud of the experiences I’ve had so far. From my early days tutoring GCSE students in Year 12 to now teaching A-level sciences alongside my degree, I’ve learned so much about both teaching and learning itself. Each student I’ve worked with has helped me grow as a tutor, and that’s something I’m really grateful for.
At the heart of it all, I think my biggest motivation is seeing others succeed. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone reach a goal they didn’t think they could. Whether it’s nailing a tricky topic, finally understanding an equation, or walking out of an exam feeling confident, those are the moments that make all the effort worth it.
So, if you’re looking for someone who’s hardworking, approachable, and genuinely invested in your success — that’s me. I’ll always do my best to make sure every session is productive, motivating, and tailored to help you achieve the results you’re aiming for.
My teaching style is all about tailoring each session to the individual student. I know that everyone learns differently, so I make sure to adapt my explanations and pace to suit each person’s needs and goals. Whether a student prefers visual aids, step-by-step breakdowns, or active recall, I adjust my approach to make learning as effective and engaging as possible.
I place a strong emphasis on understanding — once a student truly understands a topic, they can apply it in any situation. Alongside that, I believe exam technique is just as important. Learning how to interpret questions, structure answers, and manage time can make a huge difference to grades.
I often use exam questions as a teaching tool, not just for practice but as a way to deepen understanding. They help highlight common pitfalls and strengthen the link between theory and application. Overall, my aim is to help students build confidence, develop strong exam strategies, and truly master the content they’re studying.
year 12 – tutored gcse maths and english for a year
been tutoring gcse maths and science and a level bio chem and maths since sep 2025 with Mytutor and also had a job offer from tutortrust
My proudest achievements are getting into Dentistry on my first attempt and founding my college’s first society a Medical Debating Society that encouraged students to explore healthcare topics and develop confidence in public speaking.
