Hi, my name is David. I am going into my 5th year of Medicine at Cambridge University, having graduated in my 3rd year with a degree in Natural Sciences. In my spare time I have had a role on my collegeโs student council, the JCR, and on the college rugby team, while I have recently started to get involved in the university boxing club too.
Like most university students, I’m familiar with GCSE and A level exams as well as the UCAT and BMAT (Medicine-specific university entrance exams). I am here to help you prepare for these exams by making sure you get to grips with the key essential concepts, but also to provide you with that extra information to really help you ace your exams!
Having been though the process of applying for medicine and having to jump through the many hoops placed before us before applying, I hope that I can make the journey as smooth as possible for you by providing tips for applications, interviews, and the entrance exams in a very student friendly, understandable, and hopefully even enjoyable way!
Initially we will start with you bringing any work that you have found difficult to the online session and we will work through them. Importantly, I will aim to never simply give you the answers, but to aid in the process of working out how to get to the right answer – I feel that this is important for you to be able to tackle the harder exam style questions that require the careful application of your knowledge.
At the end of each session, we will then discuss what the main bulk of the next session will be, with the start of each session being a quick verbal quiz in which I will ask you to explain either a concept, or to answer a question and talk me through the steps you have used to answer this question.
It is important for you to know that you may not get everything right the first time, and that is perfectly fine. Learning is quite famously a marathon, not a sprint, therefore it’s not about how much you know initially, but the progress you are able to make towards your personal goals that will govern the success of our sessions.
One of my proudest achievements would have to be getting an offer to study medicine, whether it was at Cambridge or KCL. Given how tough the competition for a place is, I was over the moon to have received an offer let alone from those specific universities!
