Why Medic Mind?

How is the content delivered, and will I receive a formal certification?

The medicine work experience Manchester programme includes attending a placement in a Manchester GP surgery and experiencing medicine first hand. Experience will differ dependent on patients. After completion, you’ll receive a certificate for your UCAS applications and CVs.

How many students are in a group?

You will be shadowing a medical professional on your own so as to immerse yourself in the medical practice.

What topics and skills will I learn during the GP programme?

During the GP work experience Manchester, you will gain skills in areas such as patient consultations, examinations, diagnosis and treatment. You’ll also develop key skills in medical assessment, critical thinking, and data interpretation, all through practical learning.

Does Medic Mind have a bursary scheme?

As part of our widening participation scheme, Medic Mind runs a bursary scheme for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. These include full bursaries, as well as 75% and 50% bursaries. Applications are now being accepted and students will be informed from the 16th June if they have been accepted into a programme. This scheme is on a first come, first served basis. Students wishing to apply for the scheme will need to:

  • provide proof of receipt of Universal Credit, Free School Meals and Pupil Premium. 

  • Fill in the Bursary Application Form

  • complete an essay task.

  • provide a reference from a teacher (either head of sixth form or relevant subject teacher). This can be a character reference and include information on general work ethic and grades if applicable.

Students who partially meet this criteria are welcome to apply, and may be offered discounted places where free places are already assigned.

Can you do work experience in a hospital?

Many students look to do medicine work experience in a hospital due to the variety of medical professions you can observe. However, when it comes to hospital work experience, Manchester can be highly competitive and students are advised to contact hospitals well in advance of when they want to undertake their work experience in medicine. Our 5-day medicine work experience programme takes the organisation away from you so you don't need to worry!
