Pecs, a Central European town, has a diverse and eclectic history spanning over 2,000 years. Originally established as a Roman settlement producing wine, it has been conquered and ruled by various powers such as the nomads, Charlemagne, Ottomans, and Austria-Hungary. This has resulted in a diverse and intriguing architectural landscape for international students to explore, with landmarks such as the Roman Necropolis, medieval churches made of Roman basilica stones, Turkish baths, an Ottoman mausoleum, and a Catholic Bishop’s Palace. The University of Pecs, established in 1367, is also a historic landmark. Besides history, the city offers a vibrant bar and club scene, as well as fascinating museums and art galleries with engaging exhibitions to enrich a student’s experience.
