I’m Riona a 4th year medical student at the University of Edinburgh. I went through the medicine application process and remember how tedious it can be. I was a late bloomer in deciding I wanted to do medicine, so I only had a short time to navigate this process. As I went through the process I picked up many tips and tricks in writing personal statements, taking the admissions tests and going to interviews. I’ve also had the opportunity to chat to some of the interviewers at the University of Edinburgh during my time chaperoning the interview and learnt a lot about the admissions process and what the interviewers are looking for.
Furthermore I am a student that has gone multiple educational systems in different countries (Ireland and Malaysia) before ultimately ending up in Edinburgh for university. As a result, I can relate to the anxieties of moving to a new country and environment, and constantly feeling the need to “catch up” in different systems. I hope to help others like myself gain confidence throughout this intimidating process and am happy to give advice on adapting to new environments.
My goal in tutoring is to provide simple approaches to each step with key tips and tricks. I also aim to be a sounding board for students to discuss their ideas and concerns throughout the process, and continuously give personal feedback. This will help me to adapt any sessions and advice to best suit the needs of each individual student.
I have had some experiencing doing intensive tutoring with IGCSE student a few months before their exams.
At age 14 I made a family friend’s wedding cake. It took two days and some tears but I have never been more proud of myself.
