Hi, I’m Jemma! I am currently studying Dentistry at Newcastle University. I have great interest in this career as I thrive in an interpersonal role due to my confident and outgoing nature. Due to being in my 5th year, I have gained a breadth of clinical experience and performed a wide variety of procedures. I feel this, alongside the variety of patients I have interacted with gives me a great understanding of Dentistry, the techniques behind it, and the skills required. I have a keen interest in the sciences, having previously studied Biology and Chemistry at A level. This was combined with History, which allowed me to work on my written language and critical thinking.
Aside from my education, I am an outgoing and sociable person who enjoys surrounding myself with friends, family and my puppy. As a greatly driven person, I am always pursuing new challenges to get the best out of myself. Currently, this takes the form of running, in training for a half marathon. The gym also plays a big role in my work life balance, and keeps me motivated and accountable.
I have a hard-working attitude, which has really developed during my time in University due to having to adapt to independent learning. I also am an enthusiastic person, which enables me to be both reliable and trustworthy. Through both paid employment and sport I have developed a clear and confident style of communication to become adaptable to the needs of many different people. I am also very open to feedback as I strive to be the best I can be, especially in order to help others.
I prioritise creating a friendly, comfortable environment in my teaching, as I believe giving the student the confidence to ask questions and express themselves is paramount. Furthermore, I recognise the importance of being an adaptable teacher- centring my tutoring on an individuals strengths, weaknesses and individual goals. I also have a determination to help students succeed and push themselves to achieve things that may seem difficult initially.
I am exceptionally proud of myself working through initial difficulties in my A levels to achieve my true potential. This was achieved through dedication, my motivation and also learning specific techniques to streamline my learning. In my university life I am also proud of my self determination despite the challenges of online learning; I pushed myself to pass my exams and use a lot of independent learning to understand the curriculum and push myself to understand wider topics.
