I recently graduated with a Masters in Global and Imperial History from the University of Oxford in June 2023 after having completed my Bachelors in History from Oxford in June 2022. At university, I was involved with various student societies, most recently having completed my term as Editor-in-Chief of the Oxford Review of Books. Currently on a gap year, I am looking forward to tutoring students interested in academic study at Oxford or Cambridge, with a particular focus on the Humanities. I would love to hear from students who require extra help with school or academic work. Equally, I would be happy to provide ‘liberal arts’ tutoring for students interested in the Humanities that goes beyond the limits of a school curriculum and introduces them to the vast diversity of subjects and skills that the Humanities has to offer. This knowledge can be especially useful for students while writing EPQs or other forms of coursework as well as providing a good foundation before embarking on undergraduate study.
My teaching style is specific to each student. I hope to establish in the first session what methods of teaching and learning works for each student and then spend some time reflecting in each session as to which methods are working well so that the student can get the most out of each lesson. For example, if a student is a visual learner, I will incorporate mind maps or image association exercises into each lessons whereas for an oral learner, I will recommend podcasts or lectures they can listen to in their own time which will help them to keep on top of their studies in a subconscious way. Most importantly though, each session will be based on whatever the student needs help with or is interested in learning about and this will ensure that tutoring will be a complementary education to their studies at school rather than an extra demand on students’ already limited time.
I was an outreach officer at Mansfield College, Oxford and the University of Oxford Outreach Team for three years which gave me extensive experience in leading personal statement and interview prep workshops with potential Oxbridge applicants. Furthermore, I have also voluntarily tutored adults learning English as a foreign language during my second year at university.
I graduated my undergraduate degree with a First and graduated with a Merit in my masters.
