12About Me
Hi guys,
My name is Taran, and I’m a 4th-year medical student at the University of Manchester. I’ve been tutoring for four years now, as it’s a hobby I thoroughly enjoy. Being able to see students improve and progress between lessons is a very rewarding experience that I wish to continue.
I have experience tutoring students from Year 7 all the way to Year 13. I specialise in tutoring A-Level Biology and Chemistry because I absolutely loved them during school and have always had a strong interest in science-based subjects. For GCSE, I teach all core subjects.
In addition to exam preparation, I also specialize in medical school applications. In the last application cycle, I worked with seven students from across the world who were applying to UK medical schools, and I’m very proud to say they all received at least one offer. Tutoring students through the medical school application process comes naturally to me due to my passion for studying medicine, and it’s an invaluable opportunity to pass that on to the next generation of students.
Away from academics, I’m an avid sports fan. I love watching football and Formula 1 and going to the gym. During the summer, I also enjoy gaming without the stress of exams!
My teaching style
My teaching style is often very student-led. I usually have an initial lesson with students to understand and gauge their level of understanding of the subject. Following this, I like to set clear, achievable goals with my students, with their input, to ensure we’re on the same page. After creating these goals, I structure our lessons to ensure we achieve all of them. In between lessons, I often give students tasks and further reading to do on their own time to make the most of our lessons and maximize their progress and results. I ensure each lesson plan is tailored specifically to the student to adapt to their wants and needs.
However, it’s important to note that the way I teach students heavily depends on the subject and level. Each has its own individual caveats, and understanding these differences is key to ensuring your (or your children’s) success
My past experience
My tutoring journey began in Year 12, where I mentored younger students as they started their GCSEs. This early experience sparked a passion for teaching, and I have since expanded my expertise by working with students through other tutoring websites and independently guiding medical school applicants through the rigorous application process.
My Proudest Achievements
Hmmmm. That is a very tough question to be honest. But i would have to say getting my first publication as the first author of a scientific paper at medical school has definitely been my proudest achievement. This is also a paper which I will be presenting next year!
