Hello, my name is Portia and I’m a 4th year vet student at the University of Liverpool! Iโve really enjoyed going on clinical EMS placements and am looking forward to starting rotations soon!
About my university application:
I completed my A levels at a state school in summer 2021 however was unsuccessful in obtaining offers, so took a gap year and reapplied that October. With my second round of applications, I signed up to Medic Mind’s veterinary interview tutoring which was super helpful. Practising all sorts of interview questions with a current vet student really helped to boost my knowledge and confidence.
I had online interviews with Liverpool and RVC so have a good idea of what to expect from both panel and MMI style interviews.
Having had experience as a Medic Mind tutee and having completed 3 years at vet school now, I want to tutor to pass on tips and tricks to prospective vet students on how to prepare for interviews successfully!
What to expect from me:
I like to think that I am very friendly and approachable, so want students and parents to feel free to ask any question they have in mind.
I completely get how stressful the application process is, especially when you don’t know how to start preparing an application, are struggling with limited resources at school or don’t have anyone to ask for advice. Therefore, I want to help as much as possible whether it’s through sharing my past experiences, debunking any vet school myths, or just being a tutor to work through interview preparation material.
Thank you for reading a bit about me, I hope I am what you would like to see in a tutor – good luck with your vet school application!
First prioritise anything the student would like to go over in particular to plan sessions accordingly.
Work through approaches to various interview questions during initial sessions, practise answers with student and consolidate key points covered at the end of each session.
Mock interviews with the student to test their knowledge towards the end, and final sessions focusing on points the student would like to work on.
