Hello!
My name is Katie and I’m currently studying Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nottingham.
I achieved 3 A* at A level in Biology, Chemistry and Spanish, so I’d love to pass on any of my crazy ways to remember parts of the syllabus. I appreciate how big of a jump A levels are from GCSEs and would love to help make things make more sense.
As an applying student, I received help from a mentor at Medic Mind and learnt exactly what is needed to become a vet student. I really hope I’ll be able to help you all achieve your dreams of becoming a vet because, trust me, it’s possible. I understand how overwhelming sixth form can be, with the difficult content and applying to university, so I’ll be the friendly face who motivates you through it all and you can ask any questions about the process to. I can give you any interview, SJT or SAQ advice, or even just tips on how to prioritise your time throughout year 13.
I hope I’ll be able to help in any way I can 🙂
I am extremely passionate about building confidence of any students that I teach, because I think that if a student believes in themselves, they have already made huge improvements. This is particularly true during interviews for university. I’ll be motivational and use interview- style questions throughout each session, for Vet applicants, as well as giving immediate feedback on their answers so they know exactly how to improve. They key for Veterinary Interviews is repetition and practice, therefore I will utilise the time in our sessions so that the applicant can become more confident in themselves and their answers.
For science lessons, at each session will be able to pick a topic that they would prefer to focus on. I aim to use a combination of explaining content and do lots of exam questions through every lesson, so students can apply their knowledge immediately. I’m happy to tutor at whatever pace works best for the student, however I prefer to not overload them with information and rushing through content without understanding it. I can offer support on some techniques I used to remember certain processes, and the crazy mnemonics I created. I take a relaxed approach to teaching as I feel that this creates an environment where the student can ask absolutely any question. I also tell my students that they can contact me via WhatsApp at any time with questions they have 🙂
I have tutored Maths and English with a company called Explore Learning for 5 years, to children aged 3-15, so I’ve been trained in teaching students with additional needs, as well as safeguarding and the best tutoring methods possible. I have undertaken specialised 11+ teaching courses and training to be familiar with the specification. I familiar with the creative writing marking schemes and am able to mark it.
I have been working with Study Mind for 3 years and have tutored over 1000 hours of lessons. I’m pleased to say that in the 2022-23, 2023-24- and 2024-25 applicaiton cycle, all 25 of the students I tutored for Veterinary interviews received at least one offer. I currently have a 100% success rate in helping students receive an offer for vet school.
I have tutored science at GCSE and A level to over 50 students in the last 3 years. All of my students feel as though they have made progress.
My proudest achievement is completing a half marathon to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
