Hello! I’m Lin, a 3rd year medical student at the University of Glasgow. I took A-Level Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Drama, and the EPQ, of which I attained A*A*A*A*A.
In 2022, I scored 3010 in the UCAT, which put me in the top 5% of candidates and landed me medicine interviews with the University of Glasgow, Newcastle University, and the University of Sheffield, all of which I was accepted to.
I am currently the Vice-President of the AMSA medical society at the University of Glasgow, and the Year 3 representative for the University of Glasgow society of Medicine. I am also the Education Officer for Glasgow Neuro this year, and I was previously the Preclinical Academic Officer of AMSA, where I regularly organised teaching sessions for Year 1 and Year 2 students, tutoring a number of sessions myself. I also hold the position of Treasurer of the Society of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, which happens to be the specialty I am most interested in!
Medical school applications are a long and daunting journey, but I promise the reward for such hard work is being able to pursue your dreams. I hope I can provide you the support you need as an aspiring medical student, and I look forward to helping you along your journey to medical school!
My teaching style is interactive and supportive, combining clear explanations, practical strategies, and exam technique to build your confidence and proficiency in all UCAT sections. Iโll begin by understanding your strengths, weaknesses, and goals, and use this insight to create a plan. Lessons are flexible, with a balance of theory, practice questions, and lots of tips on how to succeed in the UCAT. In Biology and Chemistry lessons, we will focus on understanding key exam concepts and answering past paper questions, with classes tailored to your pace and specific learning requirements.
As for the interview, I’ll explain how to answer commonly asked questions, and how to face unexpected or difficult questions. We’ll discuss common NHS issues that interviewers like to bring up, and practice some roleplay scenarios you might encounter in your interview. I hope to help you build confidence with speaking and answering interview questions, and ultimately to make sure you are as comfortable and prepared as possible on interview day.
I am currently a medical school interview mentor with MMI UK, and have been mentoring aspiring Year 13 medical students with their interview skills and guiding them through the application process since March 2023. I have also been tutoring Biology and Chemistry at GCSE and later A-Level for 2 years, and currently have worked as a teacher in the performing arts industry since 2019, whilst doing my A-levels and intermittently during my university breaks.
Today, I continue to tutor Year 1 and Year 2 medical students, volunteering for teaching sessions with multiple different societies. I am passionate about medical education, and I hope to continue providing high-quality, accessible teaching to medical students.
I achieved a Trinity ATCL diploma in music performance in 2021, and a CSTD diploma in modern dance in 2022. I was also awarded a joint academic and arts scholarship by the Alice Smith School Kuala Lumpur in 2021-2023. My proudest academic achievement was scoring in the top 1% of candidates in my 2nd year of medical school last year, in a cohort of more than 360 students!
