My name is Sophie and I am a 3rd Year Medical Student at Swansea University. I am a mature student (34) and have had quite a unique path into medicine which has enabled me to gain many experiences and skills along the way. I was a professional dancer for 10 years where I was lucky enough to travel the world, following injury and ‘retirement’ from that career I then pursued a career in medicine, passing the GAMSAT and getting offers from several medical schools first time.
At school I had studied History, English Lit and Art for A Levels so had very little science knowledge when I decided to apply to med school, so I therefore had to teach myself Biology, Chemistry and Physics in order to pass the GAMSAT (section 3) which I did with the aid of an access course at Kingston University (gaining AAA). I did well at the GAMSAT (scoring 64 in the science section), scoring enough to get interviews at all the medical schools that I had applied to. I now have fairly recent experience of GCSE and A Level Sciences and a good understanding of the GAMSAT exam and what is expected at Medical School interviews.
I like to use an interactive method and encourage questions, repetition has been proven to be a beneficial way of learning as have practice questions but I try to make it as enjoyable as possible! I try to make each teaching session unique and specific to the student too as everyone learns in different ways.
I have a lot of experience in teaching (in dance) and have tutoring experience in English Language.
Getting into medical school 1st time at the age of 32 and my dancing career that enabled me to travel around the world and perform in many prestigious shows!
