Hey! My name is Sandra, and I am a first-year medic at St. George’s, University of London.
A fun fact about me is I did a year of Biomed in Trinity College Dublin before taking up my deferral to study at St. George’s, so I have a good insight into other healthcare careers… and why I chose Medicine!! (I was deferred due to my young age when receiving the offer).
During this gap year, I had time to reflect and
I received 5/6 interviews for Medicine. This allowed me to have experience with various interview structures across the UK. I also have experience with MMI and Panel interviews, both in-person and online.
I managed to get into the top 10% for the UCAT too, thanks to my tutor from Medic Mind! I hope to make the same impact for you!
As an Irish National, we take up at least 7 subjects for our equivalent to A-levels (I did 8 subjects!). As a result, time management is key when you have to balance so many subjects, so I have a few tips and tricks for tackling interview season and studying for your exams 🙂
When starting off, learning theory is great but as you get closer to the UCAT/interview, you need to start practicing questions. Together, we can reflect on what went well when you practice, and what can be improved! It will be easier to learn and build your knowledge!
I am also a qualified piano teacher and teach kids how to read notes and play simple tunes 🙂
Getting into Medicine in London was not an easy feat!!
Receiving my diploma in piano playing at 16 years of age was pretty cool too!
