About Me

Hi! I’m Navya, a third-year medical student at the University of Manchester:) I’m from Canada, so I am an international student which means I’ve been able to get a different perspective while applying here. I know the application process, as well as A levels, are a challenging time for any student, and so I’m really excited to be able to play a role in helping out!

In terms of my experience, I did interviews for both the University of Manchester and Glasgow, so I was able to understand the different interview questions and types. Being an international student, I also had questions that were specifically based on me being international so I have experience with that as well. I also wrote the UCAT, being in the 88th percentile. I learned different techniques to learn how to study for the UCAT as well as key resources. Finally, I studied chemistry, physics, math and biology scoring distinction and above 96 and 98 percentile. I still have all the notes and resources I used to study for these subjects and I am confident that I will be able to teach any student how to excel in them.

I would really love to be your tutor! I genuinely will go above and beyond and try my best to ensure that every student is successful. Furthermore, I will definitely be a consistent tutor and be professional and quick in my responses.

My teaching style

In terms of my teaching style,  the best way I’ve learned to study is to do a  lot of questions. Doing questions as a form of studying instead of just making notes has been proven to be very useful and effective in terms of remembering information. As such, during my sessions, I would focus on doing as many practice questions as well as interview prompts as possible so that the student has attempted as many questions before the actual day of the exam or interview. I also find different mediums very helpful in learning – instead of asking the student just to take notes or read from the slides – I would try to make the sessions more interactive and answer any concerns they have as well. Most of all, I would go above and beyond to ensure the student is successful.

My past experience

Having been with Medic Mind for almost three years and completing 80+ hours with them, I have tutored 30+ students on medicine interviews, A-level Chemistry, A-level Biology and UCAT with many students having received offers as well.

My Proudest Achievements

Over the past two years, I have been working with a team to reduce the maternal mortality rate in Western Africa. After consulting with experts at organizations like The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNFPA, and Amref Health Africa, we are increasing the distribution of the uterotonic drug, misoprostol to reduce postpartum haemorrhaging by 85%.

We have partnered with a non-profit organization in Africa (Family and Youth Health Initiative) and are creating a pilot with the Ministry of Health in Nigeria. Working under the advice of over thirty doctors, my role has been designing the medical curriculum to train birth attendants on misoprostol, maternal and neonatal care. One of my proudest achievements has been winning $25,000 in a global competition for this project!
