My name is Elizabeth and I am a third-year medical student at the University of Exeter.
My interests include watching surgical and medical videos or lectures outside of my university’s medical curriculum, reading medical and surgical journal articles, reading news articles or watching the news, listening to podcasts that are medical-related, educational, or informative, and watching videos on cardiothoracic surgery and occasionally, those by the British Medical Association and the other the Health Regulatory Bodies in the UK.
At my university, I am a member of the Undergraduate Medical Society (UEMS), the Anatomy Society, the Cardiology Society, the Surgical Society, the Association of Women Surgeons Society, the Medical Research Society, and the Exeter Medical Leadership and Management Society amongst others. My membership with these societies results from my vocation for and commitment to medicine, deep interest in cardiothoracic surgery, and dedication to research and medical teaching.
I am also a member of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgeons in England and Ireland, The Royal College of Surgeons, and The Royal Society of Medicine.
Outside of my studies, I regularly volunteer with CoachBright, a social mobility charity based in Exeter, where I teach school pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in Chemistry, Biology, and Maths. I also write essays and articles for several student-led publications and I am a collaborator on STARSurg, the Student Audit and Research in Surgery Collaborative, which is a national, student-led audit and research network, enabling contributors to gain an understanding of clinical academia, audit, and research methodology, alongside ethical considerations.
