Hi, I’m Sam and I am currently a first year medical student at Anglia Ruskin. I sat the UCAT in 2021 and achieved 2720 with B1 in the SJT. On UCAS I received 4 interviews at: ARU, KMMS, Birmingham and Plymouth, I received offers for the first 3. Applying for medicine is very difficult, I would say that getting into medical school is the hardest part of medical school!
The MMIs can be very stressful, especially if you’ve never done anything quite like it before; I found myself in that situation of having interviews and having no idea how they even worked, let alone how to ace them! However I was ultimately able to obtain 3 offers out of 4 applications and a wealth of knowledge about medical interviews and applications that I want to be able to pass on to younger cohorts to enable them to get into medical school and ultimately their dream job. Furthermore, when I was in college and sat my A-levels I found the change from GCSE to A-level to be particularly challenging, and had to adapt to new ways of learning in order to achieve high grades. This takes time and was quite stressful, I want to help those who find themselves struggling at A level or GCSE to help boost them up to ensure they can get to wherever they dream to be.
I believe the best way to learn something is through experience; Academically, this would involve going over any content that one is struggling with, then comparing with the specification to see what could be on the exam and then to go through exam questions together and then compare with the mark scheme and learn how we can improve. There would be no rush either with this method, we can start from the very basics all the way to the very top and only move up a stage when you feel you have a good understanding of that topic and are confident with exam questions
My proudest achievements would be: getting into medical school and recieving 3 offers for medical school, attaining a trophy for GCSE biology and being able to make a souffle perfectly on my first attempt!
