Hi, I’m Naabil. I am a second-year medical student, and I am currently studying at the University of Exeter. My passion lies with global health and ethnic minority representation in medical education. I believe that healthcare should be accessible for all-clinically and academically.
I have tutored for Coach Bright and received a Gold standard teaching award accredited by the SSAT. I also tutored for First Class Learning for two years and was praised for my effective and engaging teaching methods. I am currently teaching refugee children in Exeter in math, English and science. I held a lecture on Anatomy and Physiology for Exeter College, where I received a commendation for my presentation.
In medical school; I am actively involved in the educational opportunities and schemes provided in order to grow my experience and exposure to medical teaching. I am a medical mentor who has taught over 15 medical students a myriad of topics ranging from the MSK system to the Immune and nervous system. I am also actively involved in exam preparation; as well as online resource making (seen with my resources on the Cranial Nerves and Clinical Obstetric Cases).
My advocacy and academic work ranges from being the General Secretary of Muslim Women in Surgery; where I collaborated with surgeons in representation and medical education, to my vast dedication to university societies like, Friends of MSF, Amnesty, Student Action for Refugees, and Surgical Society.
I am also the co-host of the medically based podcast, Very Junior Doctors- set up by myself and my peer Chloe with the aim of helping current and aspiring medics navigate medical school and applications in an accessible and clear way. My experience in interview prep also derives from the time my co-host and I successfully planned and ran an MMI simulation for aspiring medics
I have also had the privilege to engage in current medical affairs and projects in a committee capacity. This includes being the SW regional lead for Social Prescription, the university ambassador for Political Medics, a student writer for DYYV, a medical student representative for the LUNA app, a delegate for the 2023 BMA conference and a participate in the Global Leaders Programme at The Hague.
I adapt to the student’s method of learning and work hard to engage the student in all of their teaching activities. I aim to hold lessons for an hour with a 10-minute break in the middle to increase the concentration and cognitive uptake of the student. I also reflect on the lessons and how they went in order to develop my teaching style and ensure the student is yielding the best standard of teaching possible from me.

I am incredibly proud of getting my motion passed at the BMA conference for representation in medical education. I would also say that hosting my first academic lecture to Exeter College students really motivated me to pursue educational opportunities in medical school. Quite expectantly, being accepted into medical school was one of my biggest achievements. Furthermore, I would say earning my gold certification in teaching with Coach Bright was a proud moment as well. Finally, a really encouraging moment for me occurred when I spoke in front of professors and students alike on the topic of ethnic minority representation in medical education
