Hey guys, I’m Mariyam, a qualified Physician Associate working in primary care at a GP for the last 10 months and prior to this worked in A&E.

I am probably one of the only Physician Associates you will come across who has a background in Psychology!
After my BSc at City University of London, I did some voluntary work in the neuroscience sector at BHRUT and started to take a real interest in clinical medicine- which is when I came across the role.
That meant that I had to work extra hard during my masters to bring me up to speed with the rest of my cohort. I had to put in a lot more hours into teaching myself and researching and it worked really well for me as I managed to achieve a distinction in Physician Associate Studies and passed my nationals on the first attempt.

In 2023, I did a few sessions at Queen Mary University with the PA students helping with teaching as I found it is a passion of mine. Often my friends at university would ask me to go through things with them and found my explanations beneficial. I worked as in 3 different tuition centres growing up too and really do enjoy teaching. Sometimes I have students sit in with me at GP and I love helping them with things. So, finally I thought it’s time to venture into doing some PA tutoring!
My plan is to be able to work with students on topics which they find challenging and need some extra support in. I found that during my studies- a lot of the information wasn’t actually taught to us and I would have to do my own research on this and I’d love to be able to help teach others this.
