Hi,
I am Elisah Aziz, and I am a second-year medical student at the University of Sunderland.
The interview process is incredibly stressful and my approach to teaching is to build confidence with medical students, so the whole interview process does not seem too daunting.
I have personal experience with handling several interviews such as Liverpool, Leicester and Sunderland so, can pass on valuable current tips on interview style and content.
Having previously mentored students, I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience therefore I look forward to helping students with their medical school applications.
The specialist areas that I cover are roleplay, hot topics, why medicine, why a particular medical school and bringing out the positives as well as reflecting on the work experience a student has undertaken.
My approach is individually tailored to a students’ strengths and weaknesses. Positive reinforcement and building self-confidence are priorities for me.
I am patient, enjoy giving feedback and aim to get successful outcomes for students.
Mentoring students required me to establish a structured development plan which
included the topics to be covered and when they needed to be completed by. I used
a traffic light system where green = complete, amber = in progress and red =
incomplete. I found this useful in organising my schedule with these pupils My hourly session
per week comprised 45 minutes of teaching and 15 minutes of discussion. Taking
responsibility for meeting deadlines and prioritising tasks has helped me to
understand the benefits of being efficient in order to achieve stated objectives.
Getting into medical school and achieving A*A*A at A-level.
