About Me

Hello. I’m Chloe and I’m a Graduate Medic in my final year at the University of Southampton. As a graduate medical student this means I’m starting medical training having already done my undergraduate degree – having read Human Sciences at Oxford before pursuing a MSc in Clinical Mental Health Sciences at UCL – and am now doing my medical degree with the goal of becoming a child psychiatrist. I did four A-levels at school including Geography, Biology, Maths and History and so often consider myself a jack-of-all-trades in terms of my academic interests, but this holistic approach to my studies has benefited me as I’m believe I’m able to see patients from multiple perspectives and provide more rounded care as a result.

Being a graduate has both benefits and downsides but overall I think I’m much more prepared for the challenges a medical degree will bring having already done two difficult but rewarding degrees previously. My years in education have helped me learn new skills that have made me more resiliant. I’m now better able to organise my private study time efficiently, can better identify what study techniques work best for me, can advocate for my own mental and physical health whilst also making sure to prioritise my own hobbies and interests. I believe these skills, including a good work-life balance are essential to become a good doctor and have a sustainable career.

Nonetheless, I found getting into graduate medicine a challenging, and often mystifying, process, with multiple hoops and leaps to jump through without much support. Therefore, I’m looking forward to being able to help other applicants on their journey and share my tips and tricks for success so they feel more confident in their journey towards a career in medicine.

My teaching style

My goal is to get you to recognise your assets as an applicant to ensure you go into the application process with confidence, as this will maximise success. I’m patient and friendly but will always be honest about your strengths and weaknesses.

My past experience

I’ve helped multiple friends and contacts with advice and support for getting into graduate medicine in the past.

My Proudest Achievements

Getting into both Oxford and Graduate Medicine were both achievements I was immensely proud of as they took a lot of hard work and I’m so happy that it was worth it. I’m also proud of personal achievements such as my proficiency as a self-taught baker and chocolatier which has provided me with both work opportunities but also just being able to share my skill with family and friends.
