Overview
The University of Nottingham has been running its Medicine degree from Nottingham and Derby based hospitals for 50 years. Students are able to explore a broad range of research areas as part of your studies alongside national and international leaders in magnetic resonance imaging, cancer research, mental health technology and more. The Medical School is based in Queen’s Medical Centre which is one of the UK’s largest hospitals. There are dedicated clinical skills facilities including a dissection suite and teaching laboratories for medical and healthcare students. The hospital is located opposite University Park Campus and connected by a footbridge for easy access. Nottingham city centre is 15 minutes away by public bus or tram.
The first 18 months of the graduate course are modelled on the first two years of the standard 5-year course. This phase aims to introduce the basic clinical sciences, with students working small groups to examine clinical scenarios and case studies, studying the various different systems of the body in turn. From the second half of the second year, students enter the clinical phase and join Year 3 of the standard programme for full-time clinical attachments.
Nottingham place a large emphasis on GAMSAT score when selection applicants to interview. Nottingham calculate overall GAMSAT score slightly differently to the official ACER score, placing less emphasis on S3 and applying an equal weighting to each section instead. Applicants with strong GAMSAT scores are likely to be invited to interview. Graduates are also welcome to apply to the standard 5-year course, but please bear in mind this has a minimum requirement of a 2:1 Honours degree.
