Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) is a public university located in Minsk, Belarus. It was founded in 1930 and is the oldest and largest medical university in the country. Teaching at BSMU

BSMU University provides teaching across 29 theoretical departments and 44 clinical departments. Academic classes take place at teaching hospitals, research centres and practical centres. 

The university places great emphasis on practice-oriented teaching. They state that 70% of the classes taught are either tutorials or practicals in laboratories. From Year 2, students study medical knowledge and skills at clinical departments within Ministry of Health medical centres.

From Year 3 (or the second year if students are studying dentistry) practical training takes place, supervised by medical specialists.

Medical Admissions Requirements

To be admitted to BSMU, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Completed secondary education
  • Proficiency in the Russian language
  • Passing the entrance examination in biology, chemistry, and the Russian language
  • Passing an interview

Applicants with previous qualifications may be eligible for a graduate pathway, which allows them to complete their studies in a shorter period.
