Located in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, the Georgian American University was established in 2001. It has since developed into a modern and well-equipped campus with a focus on investing in new learning technologies. 

The Georgian American University has earned a reputation for being one of the top universities in Georgia. It has earned this status by investing heavily in continuously modifying its facilities, and hiring highly experienced professors with a wealth of practical and theoretical knowledge.

The Georgian American University also houses the Medical School Training Centre, a state-of-the-art training facility where students can fine-tune their skills before practising in clinical settings. This facility allows for safe learning in a comfortable environment. The training centre has a highly trained team of instructors with international certifications and credentials. Students can use this centre to develop their clinical skills and effective team dynamics. In 2020 the training centre became the  International Training Centre of the American Heart Association and the Authorized Training Centre of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians.

A medical degree from the Georgian American University allows graduates to start practising anywhere in the world. It is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and is recognised by the World Health Organisation.

Medical Programmes Offered

The Georgian American University offers an English language, six-year medicine programme for undergraduate students.

The university does not currently offer a graduate entry course or a pre-medical course. It does accept transfers from other universities. 

The medicine programme consists of 4 stages over six years:

  • Phase 1 – Years 1 and 2 are an introduction and development of knowledge in biology, physiology and medical ethics.
  • Phase 2 – Year 3 is when students develop an understanding of pathophysiology and pharmaceuticals. The students also start to build their diagnostic skills in clinical settings.
  • Phase 3 – During years 4 and 5, students are taught clinical skills and specialities. Practical skills are developed in the training centre and clinical settings.
  • Phase 4 – Year 6 learning is consolidated and deepened throughout this year, and students take their final exam. 

The academic year at Georgian American University is divided into autumn and spring semesters. The autumn semester classes start in mid-September and finish at the end of December. The spring semester begins at the start of February and continues until mid-May. 

Admissions Requirements

There is no entrance exam for this course. Admission decisions are completely based on previous grades at high school diploma level or an equal educational level. 

All applicants must have an English language certificate or must prove their English language skills in a video interview.

    Extra Curricular Activities

    The Georgian American University strongly believes that its students should be allowed to develop their talents and passions through extracurricular activities. The university arranges and encourages student events where students can socialise, network and learn new skills.

    Events for new students include an orientation day and a welcome party, organised to help the new students integrate and feel welcomed on campus. The university also celebrates New Year annually with an event for all students. 

    Cultural societies such as the GAU band and GAU theatre company provide music and entertainment on campus. These groups give artistic students a chance to develop their interests and connect with like-minded people. 

    The Georgian American University also has many sports teams, such as football, basketball and table tennis. These teams train rigorously and are often entered into local competitions. This emphasis on sports promotes a healthy lifestyle and attitude. 

    Guest lecturers, open forums and group discussions further the students learning. These events also allow the students to become involved in the social and political discussions relevant to the area and become active in responding to challenges in society.

    Student Accommodation

    University accommodation is comfortable and well-equipped. The university dormitories are close to the campus and transport links. This allows the students easy access both to the university and to Tbilisi.

    The dormitories are comfortable and furnished with all a student would need. Living in the dorms also gives access to common areas, which includes libraries, computer labs, information centres and medical facilities. The dormitories are equipped with CCTV for the safety of the students and facilities. This accommodation costs around €830 a year. 

    Students who prefer private accommodation will find affordable options in Tbilisi. The average monthly cost of a one-bedroom apartment is around €200. 

    The cost of living is also low, with the average monthly cost of utilities, food and transport around €300.
