Please note that there is a minimum age requirement of 16. Placements last between 1-2 days and some are only available for undergraduate/postgraduate students.The following placements are available, although these should be applied for well in advance of when you plan to undertake the Newcastle hospital work experience. Applications are done through the website.

Do you want to be a Doctor? 2-day programme held at the end of the summer term. Comprises classroom-based activity, 2 half days shadowing a junior doctor and a session at the Medical School where advice is given about UCAS applications and programmes of study. 
Do you want to be a Nurse/Midwife? 2-day programme held at the end of the summer term involves practical skills-based activity and insight visits to various departments and clinical specialities. 
Midwifery 1-day visit for under/postgraduate students 
Radiology Half day visit including tour of facilities and observation of the work of the department. 
Physiotherapy 1-day visit including tour of facilities and observation of the work of the department. 
Newcastle University Biomedical Science Programme  1-day programme runs in March each year for students in Year 3 Biomedical Sciences Degree programme who are considering medicine as an option. 
Shadowing Opportunities 1 or 2 days spent shadowing an individual employee in their role 
Dental 1-day visit including a tour of the facilities and observation of the department

  • Clinical and non-clinical placements are available in hospitals, within administration or GP surgeries
  • Hospital work experience placements are not provided in:
