Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic, is one of the oldest universities in Central Europe, founded in 1573. It is named after the Czech historian and politician František Palacký. The university has 8 faculties, including Medicine, Arts, Science, Education, Law, Theology, Physical Culture, and Health Sciences. The Faculty of Medicine at Palacky University offers a 6-year programme leading to the degree of Doctor of General Medicine (M.D.), which is equivalent to the degree of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in the United States or United Kingdom. The programme is taught in English and is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of medical sciences and clinical practice.

The curriculum is divided into three phases, each lasting two years. During the first phase, students learn the basic sciences, such as anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, and pathology. In the second phase, students learn the clinical sciences, such as internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, and obstetrics and gynaecology. During the third phase, students focus on clinical practice and gain hands-on experience in various departments of hospitals and clinics.

  • Doctor of General Medicine (M.D.) – 6-year programme
  • Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) – 6-year programme
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) – 5-year programme
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) – 3-year programme

Faculty of Health Sciences:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Health Care Management – 3-year programme
  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Health Care Management – 2-year programme
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Health Care Management – 4-year programme

Admissions Requirements

To be admitted to the Faculty of Medicine at Palacky University, students must have completed secondary education and have a valid secondary school leaving certificate. They must also have a good command of the English language, which is assessed through an entrance examination.

Students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field may be eligible for a graduate pathway programme, which allows them to complete the medical programme in a shorter period of time.

In addition to academic qualifications, students must also demonstrate personal and professional qualities, such as a strong work ethic, good communication skills, and a commitment to healthcare. Applicants may be required to attend an interview as part of the admissions process.
