University of Lincoln (Foundation Year)

Overview

The University of Lincoln welcomed their first medical students in 2019 by forming a unique partnership with the University of Nottingham. This partnership utilises the Nottingham curriculum to teach students based in Lincoln, with teaching provided from leading academics from both institutions. As part of the collaboration students have access to facilities (and virtual facilities) provided by both Lincoln and Nottingham. Teaching takes a variety of styles including practical classes, anatomy prosection, lectures and the use of virtual and simulated patients.

The Foundation Year course is designed to widen access to medicine. Successful completion of the Foundation Year will guarantee progression to Y1 of the standard medicine course. During this year you will study all the important elements of biology and chemistry required for your studies in Medicine. In addition, you will cover key topics in professionalism and communication and have your learning set in clinical context.

Lincoln place emphasis on both UCAT score and GCSE performance when selecting which candidates to invite to interview. Therefore it makes an ideal choice for candidates with a strong academic background as well as good UCAT performance. It’s also possible for an exceptional UCAT score to compensate for lower academic history, and vice versa, so it could also be a good choice for candidates who are extremely strong in either of these aspects.

Please note that this program is only open to UK applicants that meet specific widening participation criteria.
