Guide to GAMSAT Proverb & Comment Questions
Proverbs and comments are quite common in section 1 of the GAMSAT. They can be short and sweet and are therefore a good question type to rely on for gaining marks! There’s generally one question that can be asked of these and it is to interpret their meaning and subsequently select another quote that resembles this meaning.
A good way to approach these is to read the proverb and try to understand it and express it in your own words before looking at the answer options. This technique will boost your marks in section 1 of the GAMSAT. Proverbs and comments rely heavily on symbolism so it’s important not to take a literal meaning from a proverb or comment. The answer options may try to trick you by using specific wording used in the original quote and this is why it is important to fully interpret the meaning of the proverb before being led astray by the answer options!
